The Tibetan Yak Museum is part of the Lhasa Mass Culture and Sports Center and one of the Beijing Tibet aid projects.It is located in Liuwu New District, on the south bank of Lhasa, Lhasa City, east of Lhasa Railway Station, with a construction area of 8,088 square meters and an outdoor exhibition area of more than 10,000 square meters, with an investment of 110 million yuan in capital construction, and is the only museum in China with a special theme of yak and yak culture, with thousands of pieces in various collections.
May 18, 2014 World Museum Day ribbon-cutting and opening. On November 15, 2014, the Tibetan Yak Museum was officially opened to the public free of charge. In May 2015, the Tibetan Yak Museum was awarded the local 4A-level tourist attraction and was awarded by the Tourism Bureau of the Tibet Autonomous Region on the afternoon of May 17, 2015.
Significance
The Yak Museum is an important cultural and creative project of Beijing’s counterpart to support Lhasa City. It is located in Lhasa City, the capital of Tibet. It is specifically built by the seventh Hospital of China Aerospace Science and Industry Group.
The Yak Museum takes the concept of”yak spirit ” (honesty, loyalty, compassion, tenacity, courage and life) as its foundation. It uses yak as its carrier to display the history and culture of the Tibetan people, from the natural and scientific yak, the historical and cultural yak, the spiritual and artistic yak, and introduces in detail the origin and domestication of the yak, the Tibetan culture created jointly by the Yak and the Tibetan people, and the Yak culture in the works of art. Yak Museum is the first national museum with yak as the theme in China and even the world. It is the landmark project of the Tibetan cultural protection area, which is the characteristic culture of the Chinese nation.
The museum not only has the basic functions of collecting, preserving, displaying, scientific research, education and services, but it is also a public cultural institution that preserves the physical evidence of yak culture, disseminates knowledge of yak culture, and explores the interdependence between yak and human development. The head of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage praised the construction of the Yak Museum, will be “to fill the gap in the country, the world is unique.”
