Exploring the Hot Springs and Mystical Waters of Bomi County, Nyingchi

Nayu Hot Spring: A Geothermal Oasis

Located east of Bomi County’s town in Nayu Village, Left Like Gully, the Nayu Hot Spring features two springs with a temperature difference of 5 degrees. Situated across the Left Like River, the springs are flanked by flat lands, 90 square meters to the east and 150 square meters to the west, nestled within the Nayu Gully geological fault zone. The underground waters, enriched with minerals and trace elements from the rock layers, offer therapeutic benefits for rheumatoid arthritis, dental pain, polio, gastrointestinal diseases, and various skin conditions.

Visitor Information

  • Access: The county town is 41 kilometers from Songzong, with a paved 318 national highway. Songzong to Nayu Village is 31 kilometers, totaling 74 kilometers from the village to the county town, accessible via road.
  • Local Charm: Nayu Village, with 78 Tibetan households and over 400 residents, enjoys a mild and humid climate, rich biodiversity, and captivating scenery.

Pailong Hot Spring: A Wild Bathing Experience

Pailong Hot Spring, located north of Pailong Menba Ethnic Township along the 318 national highway in Bomi County, offers an intimate natural bathing experience with two small pools accommodating 3-5 people each. Surrounded by the rushing river and ancient trees, the springs provide a unique wilderness charm. Water is channeled into stone and cement pools via wooden troughs, allowing bathers to immerse themselves directly under the flowing warm water, enjoying the verdant valley views and the sound of flowing water.

Visitor Information

  • Access: About 140 kilometers from Linzhi’s Bayi Town, a not-so-obvious path leads down to the Luolang River, just a few hundred meters west from Pailong Township government along the Sichuan-Tibet Highway.
  • Tips: Historically free, the springs now require a small fee of 10 yuan for maintenance and tiling by a local resident. Bathing too long is discouraged to prevent exacerbating altitude sickness.

Longya Han Spring: The Echoing Waters

Longya Han Spring, near Longya Village in Songzong Township, is perched on a hillside along the road. A trickle from a large rock face is directed through a wooden chute. Legend has it that shouting “Let the water flow!” or striking the rock with a stone can increase the water flow significantly, lasting for about 40 minutes per shout.

An ancient tale speaks of a young Tibetan hunter who saved a dragon king’s daughter from drowning. In gratitude, she offered to quench his thirst with tea whenever he passed by, leading to the formation of this mysterious shouting spring, believed to possess medicinal properties beneficial for various ailments.

Visitor Information

  • Access: Departing from the county town, a 28-kilometer drive on the 318 national highway followed by a 400-meter climb through a spruce forest leads to the famed spring.

These natural wonders in Bomi County, from healing hot springs to the mysterious shouting spring, offer visitors unique experiences blending therapeutic relaxation with local legends and breathtaking landscapes.
