The Sacred Sedeng Monastery
Located in Zongxi Township, Mangkang County, Sedeng Monastery, fully known as “Sedeng Samdrub Chugling,” is a treasure trove of spiritual relics and artifacts within Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery is renowned for housing an array of self-arisen sacred figures including Shakyamuni Buddha, Vajrapani Bodhisattva, sixteen Arhats, and eighty-four Mahasiddhas. Additionally, it preserves precious items such as Padmasambhava’s vajra, the Tobwa of Tara, a concealed Vajra-holder by Longsa Nyingpo, and the protective deity Dechun Lam’s image retrieved by Tedalinba, among others.
The current abbot is the 14th reincarnation of the Sedeng Rinpoche, Tenzin Yongbu Rinpoche, under whose guidance the monastery thrives with over 300 monks and 100 nuns. Sedeng Monastery serves as a focal point for religious activities for the nearby populace, hosting annual events like the Cham Dance and the Butter Lamp Festival, underscoring its significant cultural and religious value.

- Vajrapani Bodhisattva (Phyag-na-rdo-rje): Recognized as the wrathful emanation of Great Power Bodhisattva and a secret manifestation of Shakyamuni Buddha, Vajrapani holds a pivotal role in Tibetan Buddhism. As the “Bearer of the Vajra,” he symbolizes protection and strength, forming part of the revered “Three Family Lords” alongside Avalokiteshvara and Manjushri.
