In the heart of Bayi Town, Nyingchi, lies the prestigious Tibet Agriculture and Animal Husbandry College, now part of Tibet University. It stands as the sole comprehensive institution in the Tibet Autonomous Region, blending agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry, and hydroelectric engineering disciplines. Affectionately dubbed as the “pinnacle of education in Bayi Town,” the college embarked on its educational journey in 1971, evolving from the Tibet Nationalities College Linzhi Branch. Officially named by the State Council in April 1978, it merged with Tibet University in September 2001, before being re-established as an independent entity in June 2016.
A Campus of Magnitude and Resources
Occupying a sprawling 1269.8 acres with a built-up area of 239,000 square meters, the college’s campus is a blend of academic and practical learning environments. It boasts an electronic education center, 33 teaching and research laboratories, and over 5000 pieces of various instruments and equipment. Practical learning sites such as farms, ranches, nurseries, orchards, factories, and power stations complement the theoretical knowledge imparted in classrooms.
The library, a treasure trove of knowledge, houses over 604,000 print books and more than 1.4 million electronic books, all housed in a 400-square-meter building reminiscent of Tibet’s ancient monastic libraries. The campus also includes a printing press, an elementary school, a kindergarten, a health clinic, and a vehicle fleet, ensuring a comprehensive educational ecosystem.

Dedicated to revitalizing Tibet’s economy, the college prioritizes education and talent development, aligning its curriculum and research with the region’s unique needs. With 22 departments, including nine dedicated to teaching and research, the college offers 36 undergraduates and 21 diploma programs. Emphasizing a multi-level, diverse, and high-standard educational approach, it integrates teaching, research, and social practice to cultivate a workforce skilled in agriculture, veterinary science, forestry, and hydroelectric engineering. Graduates, predominantly from the Tibetan ethnic group, serve as the backbone of technological advancement across Tibet’s diverse economic sectors.
