Perched atop a gentle hill in Kabang Township, Gyirong County, the Mulü Monastery stands at an elevation of 3400 meters. Founded over 400 years ago by Tsewang Chime Gönpo. This monastery is a bastion of the Nyingma tradition in Tibetan Buddhism.

Architectural Splendor and Artistic Heritage

Mulü Monastery boasts significant architectural elements, including a porch, the main Buddha hall, and monks’ quarters. The porch, supported by two columns, features captivating murals of the Four Heavenly Kings, the Wheel of Life, and the “Mongolian Subduing Tiger.”

The main Buddha hall, with its four pillars, covers an area of approximately 64 square meters. It houses a prominent statue of Padmasambhava, the revered Lotus-Born Master. Unique murals depicting Sakyamuni Buddha, Strongpa Buddha, the Sixteen Arhats, and Padmasambhava adorn the inner walls of the hall. The Buddha hall’s pillars feature exquisite carvings of treasure flowers, upward and downward-facing lotuses, and auspicious cloud designs at the top. Craftsmen have delicately carved entwining scroll patterns into the arches above the pillars.
