Bangjietang Grassland: A Serene Expanse
Nestled in the western part of Gongbo’gyamda County, near the village of Songduo and close to National Highway 318, lies the Bangjietang Grassland. Positioned at an altitude of 4,700 meters and covering an area of about 15 square kilometers, this vast plateau of lush grass is an emblem of tranquility and natural beauty. It is bordered by the vibrant, tree-lined Nyang River Gorge to the east and the snow-capped Mila Mountain to the west.

The grassland’s mild climate, ample sunshine, and rich pasture make it an ideal habitat for livestock, producing tender and flavorful beef and mutton, once a tribute to the Kashag government and now a delicacy for guests.

Among the grassland’s natural wonders are several hot springs, known for their spiritual properties. Initially calm, the surface of these springs gently releases vapors. Stirring the waters gradually raises the temperature, eventually cloaking the area in a thick fog, replacing the delicate mist. Locals share tales of the springs responding to loud voices, adding a layer of mystique to the already enchanting landscape.

Located about 100 kilometers from the county seat, Bangjietang Grassland is accessible by a 1.5-hour drive from Gongbo’gyamda to Lhasa. Visitors can opt for a taxi ride, drive themselves, or arrange a private tour to reach this slice of paradise.
