Day 1: Arrival in Beijing

Arrive at Beijing Capital Airport and transfer to your hotel. Take time to rest and adjust to the time zone. A gentle walk helps you settle into the journey.

For a peaceful introduction to China’s landscapes, visit the gardens of the Summer Palace. The calm lakes, traditional pavilions, and shaded pathways offer a relaxing start before heading toward higher elevations.

Day 2: Mutianyu Great Wall and Mountain Views

Wildlife such as gazelles may be seen in the grasslands. In the evening, return to Xining.

Day 6: Qinghai-Tibet Railway to Lhasa

Board the world-famous Qinghai-Tibet Railway from Xining to Lhasa. The journey takes approximately 21–24 hours in a soft sleeper cabin.

The train crosses the Kunlun Mountains, passes the Tuotuo River, and reaches Tanggula Pass at 5,072 meters, the highest railway point in the world. Along the way, you may spot yaks and Tibetan antelopes across the plateau.

Day 7: Arrival in Lhasa and Acclimatization

Arrive in Lhasa at 3,650 meters above sea level. Spend the day adjusting to the altitude. Light walks near the Lhasa River help your body adapt.

Day 8: Lhasa to Gyantse via Yamdrok Lake

Drive southwest toward Gyantse. Stop at Yamdrok Lake, admired for its bright blue waters and winding shoreline.

Cross Kamba La Pass at 4,794 meters for panoramic alpine views. Continue to Karola Glacier, where large ice formations rise close to the road.

Overnight in Gyantse.


Day 9: Gyantse to Shigatse

Travel 90 kilometers to Shigatse while enjoying valley landscapes along the way. Visit the grounds of Tashilhunpo Monastery, set against a scenic mountain backdrop.

Day 10: Shigatse to Everest Base Camp

Drive approximately 350 kilometers toward Everest Base Camp via Gyatso La Pass at 5,220 meters. The route provides wide Himalayan panoramas and dramatic high-altitude scenery.

Day 11: Everest Base Camp to Namtso Lake

Permits: Foreign travelers require a Tibet Travel Permit. Passport details should be provided 20–30 days in advance for processing.

Transportation:

  • Beijing to Xining flight: USD 100–200
  • Xining to Lhasa train (soft sleeper): USD 100–150
  • Overland travel within Tibet by jeep or guided vehicle

Health: Acclimatize in Xining at 2,300 meters before entering Tibet. Carry altitude medication if necessary. Moderate fitness is recommended.
