Shigatse Dingri Airport is a significant infrastructure development supported by the Civil Aviation Administration of China and Tibet Autonomous Region. It is situated in the Mount Qomolangma National Natural Conservation Area and stands at an altitude of 4316.5 meters, making it the third-highest high plateau airport globally. Classified as a 4C class military and civilian airport, the terminal area spans 4000 square meters. It can efficiently handle an annual passenger throughput of 250 thousand individuals and a cargo handling demand of ten million tons.
Dingri Airport, the first high-altitude airport project with an altitude surpassing 4,000 meters, commenced operations in 2023. Technology and Facilities in Shigatse Dingri Airport
Tibet Xigaze Dingri Airport Adopts an Intelligent Lightning Protection On-line Monitoring and Management System(Including a surge protective device, SPD special backup protection device, and SPD intelligent monitor device).
Shigatse Dingri Airport was certified and opened on December 24, 2022. Air China’s Airbus A319-100 aircraft now operates the first route from Shigatse Dingri to Lhasa and Chengdu Shuangliu.
Dingri Airport, situated at an elevation of 4,316.5 meters, is the third highest airport globally, behind only Daocheng Aden Airport (4,411 meters) and Qamdo Bangda Airport (4,334 meters). The airport is located at the junction of Meimu Village and Gangga Town, Zaguo Township, Dingri County, and is only 29 kilometres away from the gate of Mount Everest National Park.
According to the report of Chinanews.com, Dingri Airport is officially completed, and Chengdu will be able to reach the Everest Scenic spot at one stop, which will greatly facilitate the operation of travel agencies and the travel of tourists. Chengdu eats hot pot at noon, and sunset at Everest will become a reality in the evening.
