Where Every Turn is a New Horizon

Embarking on a journey through the captivating landscapes of Xining and Lhasa is an experience that combines natural wonders, cultural richness, and spiritual enlightenment. This 7-day itinerary, meticulously crafted to showcase the highlights of both regions, promises an unforgettable adventure.

Day 1: Welcome to Xining

Your Gateway to Cultural Exploration

Upon arriving in Xining, either by air or rail, you receive a warm welcome from the local hosts. A private vehicle then takes you from the airport or train station to your hotel, providing a comfortable start to your tour. You reserve the rest of the day for personal exploration, giving you the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the local ambience of Xining.

Day 2: The Splendor of Qinghai Lake

A Natural Marvel in China’s Heartland

Day two starts with a visit to the majestic Qinghai Lake, renowned as China’s largest inland saltwater lake. This natural gem, often likened to a vast poplar leaf nestled in the alpine prairie, is a spectacle of serene beauty. Enhancing this experience is a 30-minute cruise, providing an up-close view of the lake’s grandeur. A delightful Chinese lunch at a local restaurant adds a culinary dimension to the day.

Day 3: Kumbum Monastery and the Journey to Lhasa

A Blend of Architectural Beauty and Spiritual Heritage

The third day introduces travellers to the Ta’er Monastery, a site where architectural brilliance and religious significance converge. This monastery is a treasure trove of cultural relics and showcases a harmonious blend of Zang and Han architectural styles. Post-visit, a unique shopping experience awaits at the Youyi store, followed by a traditional Chinese lunch at Mazhong restaurant. The day culminates with an overnight train journey to Lhasa, marking the beginning of an enthralling new chapter.

Day 4: The Roof of the World – Lhasa

Immersive Tibetan Experiences

Lhasa, often referred to as the ‘roof of the world’, welcomes you with its awe-inspiring landscapes and rich Tibetan culture. The journey from your arrival point to the hotel is adorned with sights of the Yarlong Tsangpo River, Big Buddha engravings, and vibrant prayer flags. The remainder of the day offers leisure time for acclimatization and local exploration.

Day 5: Discovering Lhasa’s Spiritual Essence

From Norbulingka Park to Sera Monastery

This day is dedicated to uncovering Lhasa’s spiritual core. The journey begins with Norbulingka Park, the Dalai Lama’s former summer palace, followed by a visit to Drepung Monastery, once the world’s largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery. The highlight is the unique Buddhist Scriptures Debating at Sera Monastery, a truly enlightening experience.

Day 6: The Pinnacle of Tibetan Culture

Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple

Day six is reserved for Lhasa’s most iconic landmarks. The majestic Potala Palace, a symbol of Tibet, impresses with its grand architecture and historical significance. The afternoon is spent at Jokhang Temple, the spiritual centre of Tibet, and Barkhor Street, offering insights into the devout pilgrimage practices of the Tibetan people.

Solo Traveller

I consider myself the luckiest to have found let\’s go to Tibet on TripAdvisor. They sent Sonam to be my tour guide in Lhasa for a day and it was all worth it! First, he is a local Tibetan himself, and the culture and tradition of Tibet. this close to home for him. He was able to explain to me not only the history of the Potala Palace but also the role Buddhism plays in their lives as Tibetans. He also took me to the most famous bazaar in Lhasa and helped me buy a SIM card. Overall the best tour operator for English-speaking tourists.
