On December 16, Dundup City in Lhasa welcomed a culinary extravaganza with the official opening of two food streets: “Dundup City Chinese Food·Tibetan Taste” and “Lhasa Seal Chinese Food·Tibetan Taste.” These vibrant food streets offered a fusion of flavours from across China and celebrated the rich Tibetan culinary heritage.
“Happy Lhasa·Enjoy Life”
The opening of these food streets coincided with the launch of Lhasa’s 15-minute Convenience Life Festival, making it a day of festivities. This festival aimed to ignite enthusiasm for winter consumption and benefit the people through consumer coupons.
A Gastronomic Journey
Visitors to the “Chinese Food·Tibetan Taste” food street were treated to a mouthwatering array of dishes from Chongqing hot pot to Luzhou spicy chicken, Yunnan cross-bridge rice noodles to Hunan stewed vat noodles, and Atiao milk tea. The stalls were brimming with fragrant delicacies, enticing both locals and tourists to savour the diverse flavours.
Cultural Immersion
The 360-meter-long food street was not just about food; it offered a rich tapestry of Tibetan cultural elements. Visitors could enjoy themed landscapes inspired by Tibetan traditions, such as the Tibetan House Sculpture, Sheep Tour in the Snowy Mountains, and the Barley Lantern Array. This allowed everyone to not only indulge in delicious cuisine but also immerse themselves in the cultural tapestry of Tibet.
Integration of National and Regional Characteristics
The food street project was inspired by the unique snow-capped mountains, highland barley, and Tibetan antelopes of the snowy plateau, seamlessly blending national characteristics with regional customs.
Support for Local Businesses
The initiative aimed to create a high-quality, immersive, experiential consumption scene. Currently, 28 well-known domestic brands and 18 catering brands have settled in the hotel, while 28 snack stalls have been set up. Settled companies benefit from various subsidies and preferential policies, including decoration subsidies, tax exemptions, employment subsidies, and admission rewards.
A Glimpse into Lhasa’s Future
In 2023, Lhasa City embarked on the pilot city construction of a quarter-minute convenient living circle, ranking third in the country. This initiative strives to provide consumers with daily life services within a quarter-hour walk. The opening of the food street and the Convenience Life Festival not only enrich the lives of Lhasa citizens but also foster innovation and vitality in local businesses.
“Happy Lhasa·Enjoy Life” Coupons
Various coupons were issued to cater to diverse consumer needs, making it an opportune time to explore the food court and indulge in shopping until December 31st.
The “Chinese Food·Tibetan Taste” food streets are not just places to satisfy culinary cravings; they are gateways to experiencing the flavours, traditions, and festivities of Tibet’s capital city, Lhasa.
